Abstract
This study explores the implementation of an Islam-based cooking class activity to instill the values of gratitude and independence in young children at RA Muslimat NU 02 Kepuhteluk. The research involved 20 students and aimed to use cooking as a medium to teach Islamic values, focusing on fostering gratitude (syukur) and independence (mandiri). Through hands-on cooking activities, students learned to appreciate the blessings of food, understand the importance of being thankful for sustenance, and gain a sense of self-reliance by participating in meal preparation. The study employed a qualitative approach, with observations and interviews conducted to assess the impact of the activities on students’ attitudes and behaviors. Results showed that the cooking class significantly improved students’ awareness of gratitude, as they expressed appreciation for the food they prepared and shared. Furthermore, the activities helped enhance their independence, as they took on tasks such as washing ingredients, mixing, and serving. The study concludes that incorporating Islam-based values into practical activities like cooking can be an effective way to nurture important life skills and virtues in early childhood education.
