Abstract

This Classroom Action Research (CAR) aims to improve students' problem-solving abilities in mathematics at MIN 1 Pasaman Barat by implementing the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model. The study was initiated due to the observation that many students struggled with mathematical problem-solving tasks and had low engagement in the learning process. The PBL model, which emphasizes real-world problems and collaborative learning, was chosen to encourage active participation and foster critical thinking. The research was conducted in two cycles, with pre-test and post-test assessments to evaluate the improvement in students' problem-solving skills. The results indicated a significant improvement in students' ability to approach and solve mathematical problems, as demonstrated by the higher post-test scores compared to the pre-test. Furthermore, students showed increased motivation and engagement in learning activities. This study suggests that the PBL model is an effective teaching approach to enhance mathematical problem-solving skills and promote deeper learning. Based on the findings, it is recommended that teachers at MIN 1 Pasaman Barat adopt the PBL model in their mathematics instruction to further improve student outcomes.
