Abstract
This Classroom Action Research (CAR) aims to enhance speaking and writing skills in Bahasa Indonesia among students at MIN 1 Pasaman Barat by implementing a folk story-based learning model. Language development, especially in young learners, plays a vital role in their overall cognitive and communicative abilities. However, students at MIN 1 Pasaman Barat often face challenges in expressing themselves verbally and in writing. The research introduces folk stories as an innovative tool to foster both speaking and writing skills by connecting the local cultural heritage with language learning. The study follows a qualitative approach with two cycles, each including planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. Data were collected through student performance assessments, observations, and interviews. Results indicate that the folk story-based approach significantly improved students' enthusiasm, engagement, and proficiency in speaking and writing. By connecting lessons to culturally relevant content, students were more motivated to participate actively, enhancing their language skills. This research suggests that integrating folk stories into the Bahasa Indonesia curriculum can be an effective strategy for improving language skills while also preserving cultural traditions.
