Abstract

This Classroom Action Research (CAR) aimed to improve students' understanding of Islamic values at SMP Islam As-Salam through the implementation of Project-Based Learning (PBL) in the Islamic Education (PAI) subject. The study was motivated by the need to enhance students' engagement and critical thinking skills in understanding Islamic teachings. The research was conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection. In the first cycle, students were tasked with creating a project that reflected the moral values of Islam, such as honesty, respect, and kindness. In the second cycle, the projects were expanded to include group collaborations, where students worked together to present Islamic values through multimedia or community-based activities. Data was collected through observations, student interviews, and project assessments to evaluate the effectiveness of PBL in enhancing students’ understanding and engagement. The results showed a significant increase in students' ability to apply Islamic values in real-life contexts and their enthusiasm for learning. The study concludes that Project-Based Learning is an innovative and effective method to enhance students’ understanding of Islamic values, fostering a more active and meaningful learning experience in Islamic Education.
