Abstract

This Classroom Action Research (CAR) aims to examine the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model to enhance students’ understanding and application of Islamic Education (PAI) at UPT SDN 29 Koto Panjang, Ranah Pesisir District. The study addresses the issue of low student engagement and difficulty in applying Islamic values in everyday life. The PBL model was chosen as it promotes active learning through real-life problem-solving, encouraging students to connect theoretical knowledge with practical experiences. Data were collected through classroom observations, student interviews, and performance assessments conducted before and after the implementation of the model. The findings indicate that the use of PBL significantly increased student engagement, improved their understanding of Islamic teachings, and enhanced their ability to apply Islamic values in daily life. This approach allowed students to actively participate in the learning process, developing critical thinking skills and fostering a deeper connection with the subject matter. The research concludes that the PBL model is an effective strategy to improve the quality of Islamic Education in elementary schools, as it fosters both academic understanding and character development.
