Abstract

This Classroom Action Research (CAR) aims to explore the effectiveness of the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach in enhancing students' understanding and social skills in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) at SDN 23 V Koto Timur. The study is conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The CTL approach is applied to make the learning process more relevant to students' daily lives by connecting the content of PAI with real-world situations. Data were collected through observations, student assessments, and interviews with both teachers and students. The findings indicate that the CTL approach significantly improved student engagement, understanding, and social skills. Students demonstrated a better grasp of the Islamic teachings, and their ability to collaborate and communicate effectively in group activities increased. This research highlights the importance of using innovative teaching methods such as CTL to create a more meaningful learning experience. The results suggest that integrating contextual approaches in PAI lessons can foster deeper understanding and stronger social interactions, contributing to the holistic development of students
