Abstract

This Classroom Action Research (CAR) study aimed to explore the use of
Augmented Reality (AR) in enhancing student engagement and
understanding of Islamic History in the Pendidikan Agama Islam (PAI)
subject at UPT SDN 30 Koto Baru Rawang. The study was conducted in
two cycles, with each cycle involving planning, action, observation, and
reflection. The intervention utilized AR technology to visualize key Islamic
historical events, such as the Battle of Badr and the Hijra of Prophet
Muhammad SAW, providing students with interactive and immersive
learning experiences. Data were collected through observation, student
surveys, and interviews to assess changes in engagement, motivation, and
comprehension. Results indicated a significant improvement in student
participation and enthusiasm in the PAI lessons. The students also showed
better understanding and retention of Islamic historical events.
Furthermore, AR was found to facilitate more collaborative learning and
enhance critical thinking skills. Despite challenges such as limited
technological resources, the study highlighted the potential of AR to create
an engaging and meaningful learning environment. This research suggests
that integrating AR into PAI can be a valuable tool to enhance educational
outcomes in elementary school settings.
