Abstract

This Classroom Action Research (CAR) aims to improve students' religious
practices, particularly their ability to perform Islamic worship correctly,
through a contextual approach in the teaching of Islamic Education (PAI)
at MIN 1 SMPN 2 Sungai Geringging. The study identifies the challenges
of students having limited practical understanding and application of
worship rituals. A contextual teaching approach was chosen to connect
religious teachings with students’ daily lives, making the material more
relevant and easier to understand. Data were collected through
observations, interviews with students and teachers, and pre-and post
assessments of students' performance in performing worship rituals. The
findings indicate that the contextual approach significantly improved
students' practical skills in worship, as well as their engagement with the
learning process. The results also suggest that integrating religious
teachings with real-life contexts enhances students’ understanding and
strengthens their commitment to practicing Islam. This research emphasizes
the importance of adapting teaching methods to the students' environment
to foster deeper learning experiences and application of religious practices.
