Abstract

This Classroom Action Research (CAR) aims to enhance students'
understanding and practice of Islamic teachings through a character-based
approach at UPT SD Negeri No. 31 Ambacang. The study addresses the
challenge of students' superficial understanding of Islamic values, often
limited to theoretical knowledge. The character-based approach was chosen
to foster a deeper connection between Islamic teachings and students'
everyday behaviors. The research was conducted in two cycles, including
planning, action, observation, and reflection. Data were collected through
student assessments, observations during lessons, and interviews with
teachers. The findings indicate that the character-based approach
significantly improved students' comprehension of Islamic teachings and
their ability to apply these values in daily life. The students demonstrated
better ethical behavior, such as honesty, respect, and responsibility, which
were directly influenced by the integration of character education into
Islamic studies. This research emphasizes the importance of incorporating
character development into religious education to ensure that students not
only understand Islamic teachings but also live by them.
