Abstract
This Classroom Action Research (CAR) aims to improve students' understanding and awareness of negative traits, such as arrogance, envy, and showing off (sombong, hasad, riyad), in SMPIT Cahaya Madani through the application of Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) methods. The study was conducted over two cycles, with each cycle focusing on designing activities that connect the material to real-life situations, thus helping students recognize the consequences of these negative traits in their daily interactions. The research employed a qualitative approach, using observation, interviews, and documentation as data collection methods. The results showed that students’ awareness and understanding of these negative traits significantly improved after participating in CTL-based activities that involved discussions, role plays, and reflection on personal experiences. The research highlights the importance of making learning meaningful by linking it to students’ everyday lives. The findings suggest that contextual learning not only improves students' understanding of ethical issues but also helps them apply these lessons to avoid negative behaviors. This study recommends incorporating more contextual activities in character education to promote positive values among students.
