Abstract

This classroom action research aims to improve students’ understanding of the fasting commandments (perintah puasa) in Islamic teachings by applying interactive storytelling methods. The study was conducted with eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Rambah Hilir. The research was carried out in two cycles, each involving planning, action, observation, and reflection. Initially, students showed a limited understanding of the significance and purpose of fasting in Islam. The introduction of interactive storytelling, where students actively participated in narrating and discussing stories related to fasting, greatly enhanced their engagement and comprehension. The results showed that students were more able to explain the spiritual and practical aspects of fasting, including its benefits and rules. They also demonstrated increased enthusiasm and critical thinking about how fasting is connected to self-discipline and empathy. This method effectively connected theoretical learning with real-life experiences, making the lesson more meaningful. As a result, the study concluded that interactive storytelling is an effective approach to teaching complex religious concepts and can significantly enhance students’ understanding and retention of Islamic teachings, particularly on topics such as fasting
