Main Article Content
Abstract
This study aims to describe the role of individual counseling services in supporting fatherless children living in Darul Hikmah Orphanage in dealing with emotional, social, and psychological challenges resulting from the absence of a father figure. The lack of paternal involvement often leads to feelings of insecurity, low self-esteem, anxiety, and difficulties in character development. This research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method, using observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving the children, caregivers, and counselors. The findings reveal that individual counseling plays a significant role in helping children understand their emotions, process their experiences of loss, and rebuild a positive self-concept. In addition, counseling contributes to improving social adaptation and enhancing psychological well-being. Darul Hikmah Orphanage also provides a supportive, religious, and safe environment that aids children’s growth and emotional recovery. However, several challenges remain, including limited external support and negative environmental influences. Overall, individual counseling proves to be an effective intervention for strengthening emotional resilience and fostering healthy character development among fatherless children in the orphanage.
