Abstract

This Classroom Action Research (CAR) aims to improve students’ learning outcomes in Indonesian language subjects through the implementation of the Collaborative Learning model at MI Darul Ilmi Sampoang. The background of this study is the low level of students’ participation and learning achievement in Indonesian language lessons, which are still dominated by teacher-centered instructional methods. To address this issue, collaborative learning was applied to encourage active participation, cooperation, and meaningful interaction among students.

The research was conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The subjects of this study were students of MI Darul Ilmi Sampoang in the academic year 2025/2026. Data were collected through observation sheets, learning achievement tests, field notes, and documentation. Qualitative data were analyzed descriptively to describe changes in students’ learning behavior, while quantitative data were analyzed by comparing students’ test scores across cycles.

The results of the study show a significant improvement in students’ learning outcomes and learning engagement. In the first cycle, students began to show increased participation in group discussions, although some still faced difficulties in collaboration. After improvements were made in the second cycle, students demonstrated better cooperation, higher motivation, and improved understanding of Indonesian language materials. The average learning achievement scores increased from the pre-cycle to cycle II, and the number of students achieving the minimum mastery criteria also showed a considerable rise.

Based on the findings, it can be concluded that the Collaborative Learning model is effective in improving Indonesian language learning outcomes and student engagement at MI Darul Ilmi Sampoang. Therefore, this learning model is recommended as an alternative instructional strategy to enhance the quality of Indonesian language teaching in Islamic elementary schools.
