Abstract

This classroom action research aims to improve the critical thinking skills of fifth-grade students through the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model at MIN 2 Bojonegoro. The background of this study is the low level of students’ critical thinking, as seen from their difficulty in analyzing problems, expressing arguments, and providing logical solutions during learning activities. The research was conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. Problem-Based Learning encourages students to actively explore real-life problems, work collaboratively in groups, and develop solutions through inquiry and reasoning. During the implementation, students were given contextual problems related to daily life and guided to analyze them step by step. Various learning tools, such as worksheets and group discussions, were used to stimulate students’ thinking processes. The results showed a significant improvement in students’ critical thinking abilities. In the first cycle, only 48% of students reached the minimum standard, which increased to 84% in the second cycle. Students became more active, confident, and able to express their reasoning clearly. In conclusion, Problem-Based Learning is an effective strategy for enhancing critical thinking and should be integrated into classroom practices to support 21st-century skills.
