Abstract
This classroom action research aims to improve students’ understanding of obligatory (fardu) prayers through the implementation of audio-visual media in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) for Grade IV students at SD Negeri 017 Bagan Limau. The study was conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The research was motivated by the low level of students’ comprehension of the procedures and meaning of Salat, as observed in previous learning sessions using conventional methods. Audio-visual media such as videos, animations, and interactive presentations were utilized to create a more engaging and concrete learning experience. These tools provided clear demonstrations of prayer movements and helped students visualize the importance and steps of Salat more effectively. The results showed significant improvement in students’ learning outcomes. In the first cycle, only 50% of students reached the minimum comprehension criteria, while in the second cycle, the figure increased to 83%. Students became more attentive, motivated, and actively involved in class discussions. In conclusion, the use of audio-visual media is an effective strategy to enhance students' understanding of Islamic practices, particularly in teaching Salat, and should be integrated into PAI learning to support better religious comprehension.
