Abstract

This classroom action research aims to improve students’ understanding of mathematical concepts through the application of the Think-Pair-Share (TPS) cooperative learning model in Grade V at MIN 15 Aceh Besar. The research was conducted in two cycles using the steps of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The background of the study is the low level of student comprehension in mathematics, particularly in solving problems that require conceptual understanding and reasoning. Think-Pair-Share is a cooperative strategy that encourages students to think individually, discuss ideas in pairs, and then share their thoughts with the larger group. This approach promotes active participation, critical thinking, and peer learning. The results of the study showed a significant improvement in students’ conceptual understanding. In the first cycle, only 46% of students achieved the minimum criteria of understanding, whereas in the second cycle, the percentage increased to 84%. Students became more engaged, confident in expressing their ideas, and demonstrated improved problem-solving skills. In conclusion, the Think-Pair-Share model is effective in enhancing students’ mathematical understanding and should be considered as an alternative strategy in classroom learning, especially in subjects that require conceptual depth and collaboration.
