Abstract

This classroom action research aims to improve the cognitive abilities of children in recognizing number concepts through number snake and ladder games in Group B of RA Al-Ikhlas Tanjung Selor. The research was conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The research subjects were 15 children aged 5–6 years. Data collection techniques included observation, documentation, and field notes, while the analysis used descriptive qualitative and quantitative methods. The results showed a significant increase in children's cognitive abilities from pre-action to the end of the second cycle. Initially, only 4 children (26.7%) were able to recognize numbers 1–10 correctly. After the second cycle, 13 children (86.7%) were able to identify numbers, sequence them correctly, and use them in simple counting tasks. The snake and ladder number game provided a fun and interactive learning experience that helped children learn number concepts in a concrete and meaningful way. This research concludes that number snake and ladder games are effective in improving early childhood cognitive development, especially in understanding number concepts. The method is recommended as an alternative learning strategy that integrates play and learning in early childhood education.
