Abstract
This classroom action research aimed to improve students’ understanding of Islamic values through the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model. The study was conducted in Class XI of SMA Negeri 1 Pangkalan Lesung over two cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The research was motivated by the observation that many students showed limited comprehension and low engagement when learning Islamic values through conventional teaching methods. The PBL model was chosen to encourage active learning, critical thinking, and problem-solving by involving students directly in real-life moral and religious issues. Data were collected through observation sheets, student worksheets, and written tests. Results showed a significant improvement in students’ understanding and participation. Students became more motivated, collaborative, and responsive in discussing Islamic values within contextual cases. By working in groups and solving problems based on daily life situations, students were able to internalize values such as honesty, tolerance, and responsibility more effectively. The study concludes that the PBL model is an effective instructional approach to enhance students’ comprehension of Islamic values at the senior high school level.
