Abstract
This classroom action research aims to improve students’ understanding of the concept of energy sources through the implementation of the Discovery Learning model. The research was conducted in Class IV of MIS Al-Iman Ketahun over two learning cycles, each consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. Initial observations indicated that students had difficulty identifying types of energy sources and understanding their uses in daily life. Traditional teaching methods were found to be less effective in promoting conceptual understanding and active participation. The Discovery Learning model was applied to encourage students to explore, investigate, and draw conclusions independently. Learning activities were designed to involve observation, group discussions, and hands-on experiments related to renewable and non-renewable energy sources. Data were collected through observation sheets, student worksheets, and learning outcome tests. The results showed a significant improvement in students’ engagement, critical thinking, and comprehension of the topic. By the end of the second cycle, most students were able to accurately identify different energy sources and explain their functions. This study concludes that Discovery Learning is an effective approach for enhancing scientific understanding and should be integrated into IPAS learning at the elementary level.
