Abstract

This classroom action research aims to improve the cognitive abilities of early childhood students in recognizing shapes and sizes through the implementation of the Block Center Learning Model at RA Al-Ikhlas. The research was conducted on 15 children in Group B, using a two-cycle model consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The learning activities were designed using a play-based and center-based approach, where children explored various shapes and sizes through hands-on experiences with building blocks. Data collection was carried out using observation sheets, field notes, and performance assessments. The results showed a significant improvement in the children’s cognitive development, particularly in their ability to identify, compare, and group shapes and sizes. In the first cycle, only 53% of children reached the expected developmental criteria, while in the second cycle, the percentage increased to 87%. The findings indicate that the block center model not only enhances children's understanding of basic math concepts but also supports their creativity, problem-solving, and collaborative skills. Therefore, it can be concluded that the Block Center Learning Model is an effective and developmentally appropriate strategy for improving cognitive learning outcomes in early childhood education at RA Al-Ikhlas.
