Abstract
This classroom action research aims to improve students' descriptive writing skills through the use of serial picture media in Class V of MIN 10 Aceh Besar. The study was conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The background of the research was based on initial findings indicating that many students had difficulty generating ideas, organizing sentences, and using appropriate vocabulary when writing descriptive texts. Traditional teaching methods, which relied heavily on explanation and textbook exercises, were found to be less effective in stimulating students’ creativity and interest. Serial picture media was chosen because it visually supports students in expressing ideas more clearly and sequentially. Data were collected through observation, student writing tasks, and teacher assessments. The results showed a significant improvement in students’ writing quality, including content development, sentence structure, and vocabulary use. Students became more motivated and engaged in the learning process. By the end of the second cycle, most students achieved the minimum competency standard. This study concludes that serial picture media is an effective instructional tool for enhancing descriptive writing skills in elementary school students and is recommended for broader use in language learning.
