Abstract

This classroom action research aims to improve children’s cognitive abilities in understanding number concepts through the activity of playing snakes and ladders in Group B of RA Darussalam. The study was conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The background of the research stems from the observation that many children in Group B struggled with recognizing numbers, counting sequentially, and understanding number order. Traditional methods such as worksheets and memorization were found to be less effective and often made children feel bored. The use of snakes and ladders, a familiar and fun board game, was integrated into learning to provide a concrete and engaging way for children to interact with numbers. Data collection was carried out through observation, documentation, and performance assessments. The findings showed significant improvement in children's ability to recognize, sequence, and count numbers correctly. They became more enthusiastic, focused, and cooperative during learning activities. The game-based method also supported the development of logical thinking and problem-solving skills in early childhood. Therefore, it is concluded that snakes and ladders is an effective medium to enhance young children's cognitive development, particularly in understanding number concepts.
