Abstract

This classroom action research aims to improve students’ reading comprehension skills through the implementation of the Questioning and Answering strategy in Class V of MIS Ma’arif Biangloe, Bantaeng, South Sulawesi. The study was conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The background of the research is based on initial findings that many students struggled to understand the content of reading texts, identify main ideas, and answer comprehension questions accurately. The Questioning and Answering strategy encourages students to actively engage with the text by generating and responding to questions, thus improving focus and comprehension. Data were collected through observation, reading tests, and student interviews. The results showed significant improvement in students' reading comprehension abilities. Students became more motivated, attentive, and confident in expressing their understanding of the text. By the end of the second cycle, most students achieved the minimum mastery criteria. This study concludes that the Questioning and Answering strategy is an effective method to enhance reading comprehension and is highly recommended for use in Bahasa Indonesia lessons, particularly at the elementary level where critical reading habits begin to develop.
