Abstract
This classroom action research aims to improve students' understanding of the concept of changes in the states of matter through simple experiments in Class IV of MIS Darul Ilmi Al-Islamy, Bantaeng, South Sulawesi. The study was conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection. Initial observations revealed that many students had difficulty grasping abstract science concepts such as melting, evaporation, condensation, and freezing. Traditional teaching methods that relied heavily on verbal explanations and textbooks proved less effective. Therefore, the use of simple hands-on experiments was introduced to make learning more concrete and engaging. Data collection techniques included observation, written assessments, and student interviews. The results showed a significant improvement in students' comprehension, participation, and enthusiasm for learning science. Most students were able to explain changes in the states of matter using real-life examples and demonstrated increased interest in conducting experiments. The learning environment became more active and student-centered. It can be concluded that simple experiments are an effective instructional medium to enhance students’ conceptual understanding in IPAS, especially in topics involving scientific processes. The use of practical, experiential learning is recommended for elementary science instruction to foster deeper learning and curiosity.
