Abstract

This Classroom Action Research (CAR) aims to improve sixth-grade students’ understanding of mathematical concepts at MIS Ikhaliyah Tuamang – Medan through the implementation of cooperative learning models. The research explores how cooperative learning strategies enhance student engagement, participation, and comprehension of mathematical content. Conducted over two cycles—each comprising planning, action, observation, and reflection—data were collected using observations, tests, and student feedback. The findings indicate that cooperative learning significantly improved students’ conceptual understanding, as reflected in higher test scores and greater classroom participation. Furthermore, students reported a more enjoyable and collaborative learning environment. This study underscores the effectiveness of active learning methods in boosting academic performance and developing critical thinking skills in mathematics. The results suggest that cooperative learning is a valuable strategy for enhancing learning outcomes in elementary mathematics education.
