Abstract

This classroom action research aims to improve reading comprehension skills of fourth-grade students at MI Assakinah, West Bandung Regency, West Java, through the implementation of the Picture and Picture learning model. The research was conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The study involved 26 students and focused on increasing their ability to understand and interpret texts using a visual-based strategy. The Picture and Picture model emphasizes learning through image sequences that are arranged to form a logical storyline. Students are encouraged to observe, predict, and connect information from pictures before reading the actual text. This approach helps activate prior knowledge and supports better understanding. The results showed significant improvement in students’ reading comprehension. In the first cycle, only 54% of students reached the minimum mastery criteria (KKM), but this increased to 85% in the second cycle. Students became more motivated, active, and confident in answering comprehension questions. The learning atmosphere also became more interactive and engaging. In conclusion, the Picture and Picture model is an effective method to enhance reading comprehension among elementary students. It supports visual learning styles and helps bridge the gap between abstract text and students’ real-life experiences
