Abstract

This Classroom Action Research (CAR) aims to improve sixth-grade students’ understanding of IPAS concepts at MIN 25 Aceh Besar through the implementation of the Inquiry-Based Learning (IBL) model. The research was carried out in two cycles, each consisting of the stages of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The study investigates how the IBL model can deepen students’ comprehension of scientific concepts by encouraging them to ask questions, conduct investigations, and explore topics through hands-on activities. Data were collected through classroom observations, pre- and post-tests, as well as student feedback. The results indicated that the IBL model significantly enhanced student engagement, fostered critical thinking, and improved their ability to understand and apply IPAS concepts. Students became more active in asking questions, collaborating with peers, and demonstrating a stronger grasp of the subject matter. Additionally, they reported greater enjoyment in the learning process and increased confidence in discussing scientific topics. This research highlights the effectiveness of Inquiry-Based Learning as a strategy for enhancing student understanding in the IPAS subject. The findings suggest that IBL can serve as a valuable method for promoting active learning and scientific thinking in elementary education.
