Abstract
This Classroom Action Research (CAR) aims to improve the understanding of mathematical concepts among fifth-grade students at MIN Sorong, Southwest Papua, through the implementation of the Think-Pair-Share (TPS) cooperative learning model. The study focuses on increasing students’ active participation and comprehension in mathematics, particularly in basic arithmetic operations and problem-solving strategies.
The research was conducted in two cycles, each consisting of the stages of planning, action, observation, and reflection. Data were collected through classroom observations, student interviews, and test scores to evaluate the effectiveness of the TPS model in creating a more interactive and engaging learning environment.
The findings indicate that the TPS approach effectively encourages students to collaborate, communicate ideas, and solve mathematical problems together. This led to a significant improvement in their conceptual understanding and academic performance. Additionally, students demonstrated increased motivation and interest in learning mathematics. The study concludes that student-centered learning methods like TPS can be powerful tools in enhancing the quality of mathematics education at the elementary level.
