Abstract

This Classroom Action Research (CAR) aims to enhance students' understanding of the struggles of the Sahabah (companions of the Prophet) in spreading Islam through differentiated learning at SMA Negeri 1 Gunung Tuleh. The study focuses on how differentiated instruction, which tailors the learning experience to meet students' varying needs, can improve their engagement and comprehension of Islamic history, particularly the efforts and sacrifices made by the Sahabah in the early days of Islam. The research is conducted in two cycles, using data collected from observations, interviews, and assessments to evaluate student progress. In the first cycle, it was observed that many students struggled to relate the historical narratives of the Sahabah to their personal lives. However, after implementing differentiated learning strategies—such as group work, project-based tasks, and personalized instruction—students showed significant improvement in both understanding and empathy towards the Sahabah’s role in Islam’s spread. This study highlights the importance of differentiated learning in fostering deeper connections with historical content and its ability to accommodate diverse learning styles, leading to more effective and meaningful learning outcomes.
