Abstract

This research was conducted to improve student learning engagement. Problems arose after sharing and surveys with parents, and it was discovered that all students were bored with distance learning at home. The learning method to improve student engagement is combined distance learning. Combined distance learning is a combination of online (online) and offline (offline) learning. This learning method was chosen because it offers more variety. After receiving online material, students can then conduct observations, experiments, and work on projects at home. Students are no longer fixated on screens and textbooks, but become more enthusiastic about activities with their families around the house. This research is a classroom action research with 33 third-grade students at SDN 05 Batang Gasan as subjects. The research was conducted in two cycles, each with two meetings. Each meeting consisted of four stages: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The implementation of these research stages was adjusted to the distance learning process, which was conducted separately because students were at home. Based on the research results, in the first cycle, an average of 74.5% of 33 students were active, while in the second cycle, an average of 92.5% were active. Thus, the combined distance learning method can increase student activity during the COVID-19 prevention period in the Thematic Theme 1 Growth and Development of Living Things subject in grade 3 of SDN 05 Batang Gasan Ummah by 18%.
