Abstract
In the world of education and teaching, various learning methods and models are designed to be used in delivering material in the classroom. Therefore, the teacher/educator plays a crucial role in ensuring a smooth teaching and learning process, as well as being the organizer and primary actor. Determining a method is crucial, as the success of the teaching and learning process can be determined by the method chosen during the learning process.
The reality in the world of education is the critical importance of methods in transferring knowledge to students. Therefore, the role of methods in learning cannot be ignored, as they are a necessary supporting aspect of the learning process. Through teaching methods, knowledge is internalized and transferred to students, ensuring that during the learning process, students can absorb and understand what the teacher has conveyed.
Using learning methods appropriate to students' needs provides a significant opportunity to enhance understanding and interest in learning. This allows students to learn comfortably, and fosters positive interactions between teachers and students.
Therefore, based on initial observations of Islamic religious learning at SMP Negeri 2 Pariaman, a problem was discovered. The problem related to the teaching and learning process, in this case, when students participated in Islamic religious education learning, students did not participate enough in asking questions about material they did not understand. It also related to students' activeness in answering questions posed by educators, as well as their lack of courage to express their opinions in front of other friends. To overcome this problem, appropriate learning methods or strategies are needed to attract interest and motivate students to actively participate in the learning process so that learning is not monotonous and students gain new experiences. Thus, through this method, students' interest in learning can increase in line with their increasing understanding.
Based on these issues, the researcher is interested in conducting a study. The research to be conducted is Classroom Action Research (CAR) using the Story Method in Islamic Religious Education (IS) learning. The teacher's role is crucial here, providing several stories relevant to the subject matter. These stories will undoubtedly pique students' interest in learning.
