Abstract

This Classroom Action Research (CAR) aims to enhance the reading skills of Grade I and II students at MIS At Taufiq Singaraja through the use of hardcover textbooks. The main objective of this study is to investigate how the application of hardcover textbooks, as a structured and comprehensive resource, can improve students' ability to read and comprehend texts. The research was conducted in two cycles, with each cycle consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. During each cycle, students were engaged in reading activities using hardcover textbooks, followed by group discussions, reading comprehension exercises, and vocabulary-building tasks. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and assessments of students' reading abilities. The findings indicate that the use of hardcover textbooks significantly improved students' reading skills, particularly in terms of comprehension, fluency, and vocabulary acquisition. This research suggests that incorporating structured reading materials like hardcover textbooks into early education can foster a more effective learning environment. It is recommended that teachers at MIS At Taufiq Singaraja continue to integrate hardcover textbooks into their teaching strategies to further develop students' reading competencies.
