Main Article Content
Abstract
This research aims to improve student engagement and understanding in Pendidikan Agama Islam (PAI) at MI DDI Malauwa by implementing the Cooperative Learning model. PAI, as a core subject in Islamic education, requires an engaging approach to ensure that students not only understand Islamic teachings but also actively participate in the learning process. The study utilizes a classroom action research (CAR) design, carried out over two cycles with 5th and 6th-grade students. Data were collected through observations, student assessments, and feedback from both teachers and students. The results reveal that the Cooperative Learning model significantly enhanced students' participation, critical thinking, and collaboration during PAI lessons. Students displayed improved communication skills, were more involved in group discussions, and showed a deeper understanding of key Islamic concepts, such as faith, worship, and ethical values. The study concludes that the Cooperative Learning model is an effective pedagogical strategy for improving both engagement and comprehension in PAI at MI DDI Malauwa. By fostering collaboration and peer interaction, this approach not only strengthens academic knowledge but also develops social and interpersonal skills among students.
