Abstract

This research aims to enhance students' understanding and engagement in Islamic Studies (SKI) at MTs. Miftahul Mardiyah Kuo through the implementation of the Cooperative Learning model. Islamic Studies, which encompasses various aspects of Islamic teachings, often requires an interactive approach to help students engage with the material and understand its application in real-life situations. The Cooperative Learning model, which emphasizes collaboration, peer interaction, and group problem-solving, was chosen as a method to promote active learning among students. The study employs a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design, conducted over two cycles, with 8th-grade students as participants. Data were collected through observations, student assessments, and interviews with both students and teachers. The results indicate that the Cooperative Learning model significantly improved student participation and understanding of SKI topics. Students became more engaged in class discussions, shared ideas more openly, and developed a deeper understanding of Islamic concepts. Additionally, the model fostered a positive classroom environment, where students supported each other’s learning. Teachers also reported that the model helped them manage the classroom more effectively, as students took on more responsibility for their own learning. The study concludes that the Cooperative Learning model is an effective strategy to improve the quality of Islamic Studies education at MTs. Miftahul Mardiyah Kuo. By fostering collaboration and peer interaction, the model not only enhances academic knowledge but also builds social and communication skills essential for students' personal development.
