Enhancing Indonesian Language Skills through Problem-Based Learning: A Study at MI Al-Muhajirin
Main Article Content
Abstract
This research aims to explore the effectiveness of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) in enhancing Indonesian language skills among students at MI Al-Muhajirin. The study was conducted in response to the need for more engaging and interactive teaching methods that can improve students' proficiency in Bahasa Indonesia. The traditional teaching approach has often resulted in passive learning, leading to less effective language acquisition. Problem-Based Learning, with its focus on real-world problems and student-centered activities, offers an innovative alternative to the conventional teaching methods.
This study employs a qualitative approach with a case study design, involving Indonesian language teachers and students of MI Al-Muhajirin. The data were collected through classroom observations, interviews, and student assessments. The research focuses on how PBL can foster critical thinking, improve problem-solving abilities, and enhance language skills such as reading, writing, and speaking in Bahasa Indonesia.
The findings indicate that PBL significantly improves students' engagement, motivation, and ability to apply the Indonesian language in practical situations. By working on authentic problems, students develop a deeper understanding of the language and are more inclined to participate actively in discussions, collaborate with peers, and express their ideas clearly. Moreover, the PBL approach helps students develop essential life skills such as teamwork, communication, and independent learning.
This research concludes that Problem-Based Learning is a highly effective model for teaching Bahasa Indonesia in MI Al-Muhajirin, offering a dynamic and student-centered approach that meets the demands of modern education. Further studies can explore the long-term impacts of PBL on language proficiency and its adaptability in other subject areas.
