Abstract

This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of Inquiry-Based Learning (IBL) in enhancing students' understanding of Qur'anic and Hadith teachings at MI NW Balik Batang. Traditionally, religious education, particularly the study of the Qur'an and Hadith, has been taught through more teacher-centered approaches, such as lectures and memorization. While effective in some contexts, these methods often fail to engage students actively or foster deep understanding. Inquiry-Based Learning, which encourages students to explore, question, and seek answers through guided investigation, offers a more dynamic approach to learning.

The research employs a qualitative case study design, involving both teachers and students at MI NW Balik Batang. Data were collected through classroom observations, interviews with teachers and students, and analysis of student performance in tasks related to Qur'anic and Hadith topics. The study explores how IBL can help students not only understand the content of religious texts but also critically engage with them and apply their teachings in real-life contexts.

The findings indicate that IBL significantly improved student engagement and motivation. Students were more actively involved in exploring the meanings and applications of Qur'anic verses and Hadiths, developing a deeper understanding of Islamic teachings. Additionally, students demonstrated better problem-solving skills and a more inquisitive attitude toward their religious studies. The study concludes that Inquiry-Based Learning is a highly effective approach for teaching the Qur'an and Hadith, fostering deeper learning and encouraging students to develop a more personal connection with their faith.
