Abstract
This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of the Direct Instruction model in enhancing students' understanding of the Quran and Hadith at MAS Miftahul Ulum Puntir Purwosari. The Quran and Hadith are fundamental sources of Islamic teachings, and a deep understanding of these texts is essential for the spiritual and moral development of students. However, the challenge lies in ensuring that students not only memorize but also comprehend and internalize the teachings of these texts. The Direct Instruction model, with its structured and teacher-centered approach, offers a potential solution by providing clear, focused instruction to students.
The research adopts a qualitative approach using Classroom Action Research (CAR), conducted over two cycles. The participants are 30 students from grade 11, and the study focuses on the application of the Direct Instruction model to deliver lessons on selected Quranic verses and Hadiths. The data collection methods include observations, interviews, and student assessments. Observations are made to assess students' engagement and participation during lessons, while interviews provide insights into their perceptions and experiences. Student performance is evaluated through pre- and post-tests to measure improvements in understanding.
The findings suggest that the Direct Instruction model significantly improves students' understanding of the Quran and Hadith. Students demonstrate better retention of information, improved critical thinking, and a greater ability to apply the teachings in real-life contexts. The study concludes that the Direct Instruction model is an effective approach in teaching Islamic texts, fostering both cognitive and affective development in students.
