Abstract

This Classroom Action Research (CAR) aims to improve the learning of Qur'an and Hadith at MTs Nurul Islam Kayangan through the application of the Direct Instruction model. The research focuses on enhancing students' understanding and memorization of Qur'anic verses and Hadiths by using a structured and teacher-led approach. Direct Instruction, known for its clear and explicit teaching methods, was employed to provide students with step-by-step guidance in learning the materials. The model emphasizes active teacher involvement, clear explanations, and frequent checks for understanding to ensure that students grasp key concepts and can apply them effectively.

The research was conducted in two cycles, each consisting of four stages: planning, action, observation, and reflection. In the planning phase, the researcher and the teacher designed lesson plans incorporating Direct Instruction strategies tailored to the learning of Qur'an and Hadith. During the action phase, lessons were delivered with explicit guidance and repetitive practice to reinforce learning. Observations were made during the lessons to monitor students' participation and comprehension, while reflections were conducted after each cycle to assess the effectiveness of the approach and identify areas for improvement.

The findings indicate that Direct Instruction significantly improved students' memorization skills, comprehension of the Qur'anic verses, and understanding of the Hadiths. The structured approach helped students focus on key concepts, leading to increased retention and a deeper connection with the material. The research highlights the effectiveness of Direct Instruction in enhancing the learning of Islamic studies, particularly in Qur'an and Hadith, in a structured and disciplined classroom setting.
