Abstract

This Classroom Action Research (CAR) aims to enhance students' understanding of Sejarah Kebudayaan Islam (Islamic History) at MIN 10 Pesisir Selatan by implementing the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model. PBL is an educational approach that engages students in solving real-world problems, encouraging them to apply critical thinking, collaboration, and independent learning. This research explores how PBL can improve students' understanding of Islamic history, develop their analytical skills, and help them connect historical events to contemporary issues.

The study involves 30 students from grade 6 at MIN 10 Pesisir Selatan. Data collection is conducted through classroom observations, interviews with students and teachers, and pre- and post-assessment tests to evaluate improvements in students' knowledge and problem-solving skills. The research is conducted in two cycles. In the first cycle, the PBL model is introduced by presenting students with historical problems related to Islamic civilization. Students work in groups to research, analyze, and present solutions. The second cycle involves refining the PBL approach based on feedback and observations from the first cycle, with more emphasis on deepening the historical context and encouraging critical thinking.

The results indicate that the PBL model significantly improves students' engagement in learning Islamic history, fosters critical thinking, and enhances their ability to apply historical concepts to real-life situations. The students demonstrated a better understanding of key historical events and their relevance to modern society. The study concludes that Problem-Based Learning is an effective pedagogical tool to improve the teaching of Islamic history, making the subject more engaging, meaningful, and applicable.
