Abstract

This Classroom Action Research (CAR) aims to explore the effectiveness of the Collaborative Learning model in enhancing students' understanding of Integrated Social Studies (IPAS) at MIS Ainun Sahab Rangas. The study focuses on addressing the challenges faced by students in comprehending social studies concepts, which often rely on passive learning and memorization. The Collaborative Learning model, which emphasizes teamwork, discussion, and mutual problem-solving, was introduced to foster greater engagement, critical thinking, and deeper understanding of the subject matter.

The research was conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection. In the first cycle, the Collaborative Learning approach was introduced, encouraging students to work in small groups, share ideas, and solve problems related to social studies topics together. The second cycle involved refining the approach, incorporating peer feedback, and enhancing group dynamics to further support learning. Data collection included classroom observations, student feedback, and pre- and post-test assessments to measure improvement in students’ understanding and participation.

The findings indicated a significant improvement in student engagement and academic performance. Students demonstrated better collaboration skills, a more active role in discussions, and a deeper understanding of social studies topics. Moreover, the use of the Collaborative Learning model encouraged students to take ownership of their learning, fostering a more interactive and supportive classroom environment. This research highlights the potential of Collaborative Learning in improving social studies education, suggesting that teamwork-based strategies can effectively enhance both cognitive and social skills in the classroom.
