Abstract

This Classroom Action Research (CAR) aims to explore the implementation of the Cooperative Learning Model in enhancing the understanding and engagement of students in learning the Quran and Hadith at MI Plus Az-Zikra. The study was prompted by the observation that traditional teaching methods often led to passive learning and limited student participation, particularly in religious education subjects such as Quran and Hadith. By adopting the Cooperative Learning Model, the research seeks to create an interactive and collaborative learning environment where students can actively engage in group activities, fostering deeper comprehension and better retention of Quranic verses and Hadith teachings. The research was conducted over two cycles with a total of 30 students from Grade 6. Data were collected through classroom observations, interviews with students and teachers, and pre- and post-test assessments. The findings suggest that Cooperative Learning significantly improved students’ understanding of Quranic teachings and Hadith, as well as their ability to work collaboratively. The model not only encouraged active participation but also enhanced students' communication and teamwork skills. Moreover, students showed increased motivation and interest in the subject matter, reflecting a more positive attitude towards their religious education. Based on these results, it is recommended that MI Plus Az-Zikra continue to implement Cooperative Learning in Quran and Hadith lessons to further enhance student engagement and academic performance in religious studies.
