Abstract

This Classroom Action Research (CAR) investigates the implementation of the Inquiry-Based Learning model to enhance students' understanding of SKI (Sejarah Kebudayaan Islam) at MTs Nurul Jadid. SKI, which focuses on the history and culture of Islam, is often perceived as a challenging subject for students to grasp due to its abstract concepts and historical content. The Inquiry-Based Learning model, which emphasizes student-centered exploration, critical thinking, and problem-solving, was chosen as an approach to engage students in a deeper understanding of Islamic history and culture.

The research was conducted over two cycles, with each cycle consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection. A total of 25 students from class VIII participated in the study. Data were collected through observations, student assessments, and interviews with both students and teachers to assess the effectiveness of the approach. The first cycle focused on introducing the model and engaging students in basic inquiries about Islamic history, while the second cycle refined the approach based on the feedback from the first cycle.

The findings indicate that the Inquiry-Based Learning model significantly improved students' understanding of SKI. Students became more engaged and motivated in the learning process, demonstrated enhanced critical thinking skills, and showed better retention of historical content. Furthermore, the model allowed students to connect historical events with their real-life experiences, making the subject more relevant and interesting.

This study suggests that the Inquiry-Based Learning model can be an effective approach for teaching SKI, as it not only enhances cognitive understanding but also promotes active learning and student involvement.
