Abstract

This study explores the application of the "Play While Learning" method to enhance early childhood numeracy skills at RA Al Hikmah. The primary aim of this research is to assess how integrating play-based activities into learning environments can improve children's ability to understand and apply basic mathematical concepts, particularly counting. The research employs a qualitative approach, including pre- and post-assessments, observations, and interviews with teachers and students. Results show that the "Play While Learning" method significantly increased children's engagement in learning, as they were more motivated and enthusiastic when mathematics activities were incorporated into play. The children demonstrated greater proficiency in counting, number recognition, and basic arithmetic, with more natural integration of these skills into their daily activities. Teachers also observed that the method fostered a positive and dynamic classroom atmosphere, where children felt encouraged to explore and express their understanding of numbers. This study suggests that play-based learning can be an effective strategy in early childhood education, as it provides a fun, interactive, and child-centered way of teaching mathematical concepts. Moreover, it highlights the importance of integrating play into early learning environments to foster cognitive development in a natural, engaging manner.
