Abstract

This study explores the application of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) in improving students' understanding of Islamic teachings in the Religious Education (PAI) subject for fourth-grade students at SD Negeri 011 Rambah. PBL is an instructional method that encourages students to engage in solving real-world problems, promoting critical thinking and deeper learning. In this research, students are presented with problems related to Islamic teachings and are guided to work collaboratively in groups to find solutions, which helps them connect theoretical knowledge to practical applications. Data were collected through classroom observations, student assessments, and interviews with teachers and students. The results show that the use of PBL significantly enhances students' engagement, understanding, and retention of the material. Students reported that the problem-solving approach made the lessons more interesting and allowed them to better understand the relevance of Islamic teachings in their daily lives. Teachers observed an increase in student participation, critical thinking, and collaborative skills. This study suggests that PBL is an effective teaching method to improve students' understanding of Islamic teachings and to foster active learning in Religious Education classrooms.
