Abstract

This classroom action research aimed to improve students’ understanding of moral values (akhlak) in Islamic Religious Education through the application of the Jigsaw cooperative learning model. The research was conducted in Class V of SDN 014 Silikuan Hulu, Kecamatan Ukui, Kabupaten Pelalawan, Riau. The study was motivated by the low level of student comprehension regarding moral lessons, as evidenced by classroom observations and formative assessment scores. The research consisted of two cycles, each including planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. Data were collected using observation sheets, learning outcomes tests, and student response questionnaires. The results indicated a significant improvement in students’ understanding of akhlak material after the implementation of the Jigsaw model. In the second cycle, students demonstrated better collaboration, increased responsibility in group discussions, and deeper comprehension of the learning content. The Jigsaw model allowed students to become more engaged and accountable as each member contributed uniquely to group success. It also promoted active participation and mutual respect. This study concludes that the Jigsaw cooperative learning model is an effective strategy to enhance students' understanding of moral values in Islamic education at the elementary level.
