Abstract

This study aims to improve students' understanding of Islamic History material at SDIT Al Fikri Painan using a discussion method. The research employs a Classroom Action Research (CAR) model, which is designed to enhance the quality of learning through cycles of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The participants in this research were fifth-grade students, and the study was conducted in two cycles. Data collection was done using tests, observations, and interviews. The findings indicate that the discussion method significantly improves students' understanding of Islamic History. Through interactive group discussions, students became more engaged and able to explain historical events, key figures, and the impact of Islam in history more effectively. The discussions provided students with opportunities to actively participate and express their ideas, fostering a deeper understanding of the subject matter. The results show that the use of discussion-based learning increases student participation and retention of information. This study concludes that the discussion method is an effective strategy in enhancing students' comprehension of Islamic History, as it promotes active learning and critical thinking skills.
