Abstract

This classroom action research aims to improve students’ understanding of the procedures of wudhu (ablution) through the implementation of picture card media in Islamic jurisprudence (Fikih) subject for Grade IV students at MIN 2 Kolaka. The research was conducted in two cycles following the stages of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The background of this study is based on the observation that many students had difficulty remembering and correctly sequencing the steps of wudhu, which is essential for the validity of daily prayers in Islam. The picture card media, which visually illustrates each step of wudhu, was used as an instructional aid to enhance students’ comprehension. Students participated in arranging the cards in correct sequence and explaining each step verbally. This method engaged their visual and verbal learning styles effectively.

The results showed significant improvement. In the first cycle, only 48% of students achieved the minimum competency standard. After the implementation of picture card media in the second cycle, the number increased to 87%. Students became more confident in explaining the steps of wudhu and demonstrated better retention and understanding. In conclusion, picture card media is an effective, engaging, and student-centered strategy for teaching ritual procedures in Islamic education.
