Abstract





This Classroom Action Research (CAR) was conducted to improve students’ understanding and practice of moral values through the application of the role-playing method in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) at UPT SMP Negeri 3 Bayang. The study involved eighth-grade students as participants and was carried out in two cycles, each consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The role-playing method was chosen because it provides students with opportunities to actively engage in learning by acting out real-life situations related to moral values, thus making abstract concepts more concrete and meaningful. Data were collected through observation sheets, learning outcomes tests, and students’ reflective journals. The findings revealed that the role-playing method significantly increased students’ motivation and participation during PAI lessons. Moreover, students demonstrated better comprehension of moral concepts and showed improved behavior in daily interactions, both in school and at home. The results indicated that role-playing is not only effective in enhancing cognitive understanding but also in nurturing affective and psychomotor aspects of students. Therefore, this method is recommended as an innovative strategy for teachers to foster character education in Islamic Religious Education classes.
