Abstract

This Classroom Action Research (CAR) was conducted to improve students’ collaboration and literacy skills through the implementation of Project-Based Learning (PjBL) based on local wisdom in IPAS (Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam dan Sosial) subjects at MIN 1 Pidie. The study was carried out in two cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection. Learning activities were designed around local cultural themes and environmental practices familiar to the students, such as traditional crafts and sustainable living habits. Data were collected through observation sheets, student work portfolios, and teacher interviews. The results showed significant improvement in students' ability to work collaboratively, communicate ideas, and produce structured written reports. Students became more engaged and motivated as learning was connected to their cultural background and real-life experiences. Teachers also noted increased student participation during discussions and presentations. The findings suggest that integrating local wisdom into PjBL enhances both academic and social-emotional learning. It encourages meaningful connections between school and community life, making the learning process more contextual and student-centered. This model can serve as an effective approach to 21st-century learning in Islamic primary schools.
