Abstract

This Classroom Action Research (CAR) aims to improve students’ literacy and collaboration skills through the implementation of Project-Based Learning (PjBL) based on local wisdom in the IPAS (Science and Social Education) subject at MIS Nurul Huda 016 Berbak, Tanjung Jabung Timur, Jambi. The study was conducted in two cycles involving planning, action, observation, and reflection. The learning projects were designed around local cultural and environmental contexts, encouraging students to explore real-life issues such as local farming practices, traditional crafts, and environmental conservation. Data were collected through observation, student worksheets, project presentations, and literacy assessments. The results showed significant improvements in students’ reading comprehension, writing skills, and active participation in group projects. Additionally, students demonstrated higher levels of cooperation, problem-solving, and appreciation for their local culture. Teachers also observed a more dynamic classroom atmosphere with increased student engagement. This study concludes that the integration of local wisdom within PjBL not only enhances subject-related competencies but also strengthens students’ character and sense of identity. PjBL based on local context is an effective, relevant, and meaningful approach in primary education, particularly in rural and culturally rich areas.
